Antonio Mercado
Huerta
Feb 24, 1953 — Feb 25, 2026
Antonio Mercado Huerta, of Orland, California, affectionately known as Tony, passed away on February 25, 2026. Having just celebrated his 73rd birthday the day prior, Antonio left this world leaving behind a legacy of hard work, a melody of songs, and a family who adored him.
Born on February 24, 1953, in Santa Clara del Cobre, Michoacán, Antonio was a man of determination from a young age. In 1969, at the age of 16, he made the journey to California to build a future for himself. He dedicated his career to the agriculture industry, spending most of his professional life working the land and serving as a respected agricultural foreman. He was a man who took pride in working with his hands and fixing things himself.
Antonio was a man who could fix just about anything. He possessed a natural talent for mechanics and loved nothing more than working with his hands. This passion was most evident in his love for classic cars. He enjoyed repairing them, restoring them, and admiring his own collection. When he wasn't under the hood of a vehicle, he was often found outdoors. He loved his garden, specifically tending to his pepper plants and fruit trees with great care. Those who knew him best will remember the sounds that followed him everywhere he went, as he was almost always singing or whistling a tune. He was rarely seen without his beloved dog. He was also an avid soccer fan and a dedicated coin collector. However, his greatest joy came from his role as a grandfather. He was completely devoted to his grandchildren and cherished every moment spent with them.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Carmen, and his children, Alejandra, Manuel, Daniel, David, and Micaela. He also leaves behind his mother, Salud Huerta, and his siblings, Carlos, Guadalupe, Humberto, Mario, Teodoro, Salud, Laura, May Gela, and Luis Esteban. His legacy of love continues through his three grandsons, seven granddaughters, and one great-granddaughter. Antonio will be remembered for his capable hands, his whistling melodies, and his devoted heart. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
