Bernard Plants was born on January 1, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois, to Bernard F. Plants and Frona Plants, both of whom have since passed away. In 1946, during World War ll, Bernard joined the United States Air Force , being stationed at Englin Field, Florida. On January 14, 1948, Bernard received an honorable discharge. On January 31, 1949, Bernard married the love of his life, Doris June Schoonover, in Menden, Nevada, making their home in Tuolumne County. Bernards wife, Doris, passed away October 17, 2017. Bernard was also preceded in death by his sister Jackie Raker, and his brother Richard Plants, while his sister Geraldine (Statham) Brannigan, resides in Florida.

Bernard and Doris had four children, Ron (Denise) Plants, Sandi (George) Noujaim , Larry (Kathy) Plants , and Diane (Lance) Dreiss . Additionally, Bernard and Doris have 11 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.

In 1955 Bernard and Doris moved from Sonora, to Orland California, where he worked for the City of Orland, overseeing the Parks and Recreation Department, and later the Streets Department. In 1988, after 33 years of service , he retired as the Public Works Director and then moved to the Chico, California area.

Bernard and Doris were very active in church, faithfully attending the Orland Evangelical Free Church, as well as later various other churches in the Chico area. While living at the Oakmont Senior Living, Bernard purchased and gave over 100 full-sized bibles to individuals he came into contact with. Bernard was known as a hard worker, a loving father, having strong values, and his dedication and commitment to God and family. He will be missed by all who knew him.

On Thursday, April 25, 2024, at the age of 96, Bernard peacefully passed away with family members beside him. On Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 11:00 am, a graveside service will be held to honor Bernard at the Orland Cemetery, located at 3900 County Road P, Orland.
