Beverly Jean
Lefanto
Jun 29, 1936 — May 9, 2021
Born June 29, 1936 on a kitchen table in New Jersey a beautiful hazel eyed girl began her life. Bev had an interesting upbringing because of the era she was raised. At the time families had a lot of children that often had to help with thier family businessses due to lack of child labor laws. She was asked to work at a very young age, she often helped her Father who was an entrepreneur and machinist with many different tasks. Bev was taught to operate a metal lathe around the age of ten. She also hauled and shoveled sand for her Father's glass block business. This gave her an incredible work ethic which she carried throughout her life. In her early teens, her family took an unfortunate turn when her father and mother divorced which changed the course of her life. Her Father remarried and Bev lived with him and his new wife for some time. This led to her having many struggles with her step mom until she ran away to her mother's residence. It was a humble one-bedroom apartment above a restaurant. Although there were struggles, there was a lot of love between her Mother and GrandMother. This is where the best of her youthful memories and adventures came to be. She loved to roller skate, even though it was a bunch of bus stops to get there, as well as adventuring into New York city where the drinking age was eighteen. Some of our favorite stories were about her time with her childhood best friend Elan, Bev always said "Elan was fast". Although there are a lot of stories about the young girl's adventures, the best one is about the day Elan had a blind date for Beverly. Elan was seeing a young man and had arranged for Bev to join them on a date to meet his friend. Elan said "We are going out to dinner and dancing". Bev wanted to make sure she was ready for the big night so she decided to borrow a dress from Elan, who had lots of nice things and was more well off than most. Bev was all set and dressed to kill for the big night of dinner and dancing with her friend and the boys. She was shocked when they ended up going to Callahan's, a hotdog joint with a jukebox, so much for a big night out. The best thing about that night was meeting the love of her life Mickey. She often shared stories of the handsome young man that stole her heart and about their wedding day. After being married a few short years Bev and Mickey made a big move to Southern California to start a new chapter in their lives. This new start brought opportunity for Bev, she found herself working in the field of electronics. Over the next several years she worked for Hughes Aircraft, Grumman's Aircraft as a contractor and North American. All of these companies were players in the Apollo rocket builds. A very proud career moment for Bev was being one of very few women to work in the capsule and high bay area. Bev had goals to become a NASA quality control inspector, unfortunately her goals were cut short as her husband was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. With the fast pace of Southern California becoming too much for the young family, Bev and Mickey moved to a small farm town in Northern California. Orland was a perfect place to raise her two boys. Bev became part of the community and became well known for baking cakes for many weddings and Quinceaneras over the years. Bev was also a part of choir and altar Society at Saint Dominic's where she was a parishioner for close to 40 years. She spent her golden years living with her two GrandDaughters and was a big part of their lives in Reno Nevada. Beverly was kind, generous, told the best stories, made friends wherever she went and loved her family more than anything. She passed away peacefully in her sleep 05/09/21.Beverly is survived by Micheal, Anthony, Tammy, Bea and her two beloved GrandDaughters Lilly and Alma Lefanto.
