Carey Wilson passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at the age of 68 in Willows, California. Carey was born on June 3, 1954 in Berkeley, California to Oliver and Bernice Wilson. Carey grew up on big old-time ranches managed by his father, Oliver, in California, Montana, Idaho, and Nevada.  Growing up a cowboy kid, hunting and fishing, he had a wide variety of talents and was a skilled archer.

Carey had many hobbies like playing in numerous bands, archery, book collecting, and reading. Carey was a self-taught drummer, teaching himself to play by listening to The Ventures.

Carey graduated from Corning High school in 1972. Over the course of Carey's life he was employed in a variety of occupations, including welder, roofer, writer, graphic designer, musician, and personal support worker. Carey wrote the Culture Vulture editorial in the Chico News and Review from 2003-2007. He finished his BA in English at Chico State University graduating in 2011. A proud moment for Carey was winning the Cammies Lifetime Achievement Award.

Carey was preceded in death by his Father Oliver Wilson, Mother Bernice Wilson, Sister Jeanine, and Sister Becky. He is survived by his Brother Dana (Aileen) Wilson, Brother Jeff (Sandy) Wilson, Niece Adrienne Wilson (Craig Harwood), Niece Erica Wilson-Kinyon (Robert Kinyon), Niece Angie Mellis, Nephew James (Jessi) Wilson, and Nephew Joel (Chrystal) Wilson.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 23, 2022 from 4 PM – 8 PM at the Eagles Hall, 1940 Mullberry Street, Chico, California.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are held under the direction of Sweet-Olsen Family Mortuary.
