Claire was born and raised in San Francisco and she was a city girl through and through.  It all changed in 1952 when she married Edward Smith who was attending Veterinary School at Davis.  Upon graduation, they moved to Corning and shortly thereafter to Orland.  Claire lived in Orland until moving to the Inn at the Terraces in Chico in March 2020.

Claire was a wonderful, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and treasured friend to many.   A devout Catholic, she was a member of St Dominic's Catholic Church in Orland.  Claire was a former member of Children's Home Society, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and Glenn Women's Golf Club for many years.

Claire will always be remembered for her pineapple upside-down cake that she took to share at funerals.  She entertained guests, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at dinner parties making hats out of cloth napkins.  Claire was very proud of her Irish heritage with St. Patrick's Day being her favorite holiday of the year.

Claire was preceded in death by her husband Edward, and her son Mark.  She leaves behind her son Michael (Julie) daughter Karen (Robin) 3 grandchildren, Mick (Ashley), Shannon Higgins (Brent), and Clint (Dominique), along with 4 great-grandchildren.  Claire's family was the most important part of her life!

A mass will be celebrated at St. Dominic's Catholic Church for the immediate family,  In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your favorite charity.
