Daryl Gleason, 90, of Orland, California passed away on May 25, 2024 in Chico, California.
He was born in Cowels, Nebraska , June 20, 1933 to Vern "Pop" Gleason and Edna(Erwin) Gleason.He moved from Nebraska to Orland California in 1948 where he graduated from Orland Joint Union High School in 1951. He met his loving wife, Mary "Susie" Thomas there and they were married February 8, 1953 at St. Dominic's Catholic Church in Orland, California. They had 3 children Rick, Valarie and Steve.
He joined the National Guard and in 1955 completed his summer field training with the 49th Infantry Division at Camp Roberts, California.He was a past volunteer for Orland Fire dept and a member of the Moose Lodge in Orland.
He and his wife, Susie moved to Willows, California in 1960 where they worked with Standard Oil before he joined with GCI and became an insurance agent. He later bought a local bar fondly known as Bourbon Street West where many friends gathered.
They moved back to Orland in 1973 where he and Susie made their home.
Daryl's love of music began at an early age in Nebraska and continued throughout his life. He was a gifted musician and his piano playing was heard and enjoyed by many. There were many times you could find him at the piano with his grandchildren playing along with him. His dog Bo would often join in and sing along.
He loved many sports, but his love of baseball was always a part of him. What he learned about the game from "Pop" and his mother, he passed on to others, whether as a coach, a player or from the stands watching every play.
He was an avid golfer and a member of Glenn County Golf Course. Many stories would always unfold at the 19th hole.His pool playing was legendary throughout the area.He and Susie loved camping with family and their close friends up in the meadow and surrounding area and many adventures transpired there.He loved to cook and he enjoyed backyard BBQ's with his family gathered around him.He was passionate about learning everything he could about any subject he chose to explore.He loved interacting with people and was always a great listener.
He is deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Susie, daughter Valarie Ellis, son Steve Gleason(Susan); his grandchildren Brandon Ellis(Jenny), Stephanie Gleason, Jill Gleason, Zachary Ellis(Nicole), Kindra Harris, Austin Gleason, Angela Gleason, Levi Gleason , Michael Gleason(Andrea); 18 great grandchildren and 9 great- great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Vern and Edna Gleason, his brother Bernard Gleason and his beloved son Rick.
For those who wish to pay their respects, services will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 10:00 am at Sweet-Olsen Family Mortuary located at 825 A Street in Orland.
Arrangements are held under the direction of Sweet-Olsen Family Mortuary.
