Dorothy Marie Blacet was born to Walter and Anna Zastera Bowdin on May 30, 1921 in Bolivar, Missouri, passing on November 15, 2018. She and her parents moved to California during the Dust Bowl, eventually settling in Orland. Dorothy was a student at Orland High School when she saw Paul Blacet driving an Orland Volunteer Fire truck in a parade. They were married in the Federated Church Chapel on July 2, 1939, after she had graduated. Dorothy and Paul had three daughters, Patricia, Barbara and Carol, and one son, Gary. Dorothy was active in her children's lives and in her community, while supporting her husband and his partner, Delbert Baugher, as they operated Orland Hardware. Both Paul and Gary passed in the summer of 1995. Dorothy and her daughters then took to the road, visiting Alaska, Hawaii, France, Italy, the Caribbean, Panama Canal, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico, the Czech Republic, and China. After her beloved Barbara passed away in 2008, she and her girls left mementos from Bobbi in Turkey, Egypt and Greece. Dorothy and Janice Blacet also visited Australia, which made six continents for Dorothy. Dorothy was a jokester who loved dogs and cats and was delighted to set more plates at the table for any unexpected guests her family brought home. An accomplished seamstress, she made elaborate formal dresses for her daughters for their memberships in Rainbow and Theta Rho. Dorothy is survived by her daughters Patricia Smith and Carol Blacet, and her grandchildren Sabra Dixon, Shawn Dixon (Shari), Danielle Blacet (Mark), Michael Blacet Stein (Prachi), great grandchildren Brodyn Blacet, Logan Dixon, Joel Dixon, and great great grandson Ezequiel Saucedo. She was predeceased by Brian Baur, her grandson. Dorothy passed on Brian's birthday. A graveside service will be held at the IOOF Cemetery Gazebo on Road P in Orland at 1:00 on Tuesday, December 4. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Orland Volunteer Fire Department, Federated Church of Orland, or a charity of your choice.
