Ethel McKinney age 86, passed away on July 21 at home in Orland. Ethel was born December 21, 1931 in Priest River, ID to Jesse and Bella (Hammeren) Comfort. Lolan McKinney, age 86, passed away on July 11 at Paradise Hospice House. Lolan was born on November 25, 1931 in Dayton to Robert and Melvina (Martin) McKinney.
Lolan and Ethel were childhood sweethearts who made their life story together a true love story by marrying on June 16, 1950 in Reno, NV. Their journey together included the joy of laying a solid foundation for their six children, enjoying waterskiing and camping at Butte Lake, Stony Gorge, and Black Butte, and, when the boat wasn't in tow, loving the beauty of Burney Falls, the Redwoods, and Fort Bragg. They also took great pride in showing others up on any country western dance floor in northern California and western Nevada. Whether on water skis or in cowboy boots, Lolan and Ethel danced their way through life together.
Lolan worked very hard in the tree falling industry with his brother, Leroy, and, later, in the used appliance business, but his true calling was becoming one of the area's first property "flippers". Lolan had a keen eye for real estate and made his way buying and selling property for nearly 60 years. Lolan's word was his bond, a handshake deal with him was iron clad, and he always lived up to his end of the bargain.
Ethel was as comfortable swinging a hammer with her husband as she was providing a loving hand for her family. Ethel was a rock of leadership for her six children, and enjoyed teaching them the value of hard work and energetic play. The pride and joy that Ethel took in her children only grew as she doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lolan and Ethel are survived by Lolan's sister Della Vallem (George) of Modesto, sons Jimmy McKinney (Cindy) of Orland, Bobby McKinney (Carol) of Orland, and Stacy McKinney (Kara) of Orland, and daughters Lola Donnelley (Larry) of Magalia, Patricia Bascom (Matt) of Orland, and Tracy Sailsbery (Tim) of Orland, 16 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 27 at 10 am the Orland Oddfellows Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Lolan and Ethel's honor to Paradise Hospice House, Enloe Hospice, or your favorite charity.
