Florence Kay
Sanford
Jul 12, 1938 — Jun 9, 2026
Florence "Kay" Sanford of Orland, California passed away peacefully in her home on June 9th, 2026, surrounded by the love of God and her family. Kay was born to Hildred and Oscar Gingrich on July 12th, 1938. When Kay was a toddler, her mother remarried to Ralph Boje', and Kay would later name her oldest son Ralph Edward Sanford. Kay enjoyed her childhood and often spoke about how much her parents and grandparents lavished her with love. As a young girl, Kay loved to read with her Grandma Perkins and played with dolls. As a teenager, she enjoyed learning to sew, roller skate and going to the movies with her friends.
The most important things in Kay's life were God and her family. She was a woman of strong faith and studied the bible daily. She was also a part of the Women's Circle group at church, which required her to get up early on meeting days due to her swing-shift work schedule. She spoke of the streets of gold and how she could not wait to see them when the Lord called her home and said many times how she couldn't begin to imagine how beautiful eternity would be.
Kay spent 41 wonderful years married to her husband Everett, whom she loved and adored. Together they raised four children. She was later blessed with 11 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren, which earned her the title of "Triple G". She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren and would show it with her loving smiles. You would never hear an unkind word from Kay. She had an infectious, giggling laugh that made everyone around her smile.
Kay had so many things in her life that she loved: baking, quilting, embroidery, ceramics, and decorating for holidays – especially Christmas and Easter. More recently she filled her days with puzzling, either alone or with her children.
Kay had three staples in her home at all times: The Lord, bananas, and Coca-Cola. In addition, she loved watching Hallmark movies and watched them right up to the end of her life.
Kay is survived by her four children who meant everything to her; Linda Stokes (Larry), Eddie Sanford (Marilyn), Sandra O'Roak (Bruce), and Barney Sanford (Dorothy), 11 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Kay is preceded in death by her parents Hildred and Oscar Gingrich, Ralph Boje', and her beloved husband Everett.
