Gertrude Jane
Fiscus
Jan 10, 1938 — Feb 21, 2022
Gertrude Jane Fiscus passed away on Monday, February 21, 2022 at the age of 84. She was married to Leslie Fiscus in Chico, California in 1955. He preceded her in death in 2017. Gertrude was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA on January 10, 1938, and moved to California with her family in 1953. Her family moved often, as she attended 5 high schools, before graduating from Hamilton High school in 1955.
As soon as her boys were old enough to not need baby sitting, she took a job as a secretary for Orland State Farm agent John Noffsinger. When a school secretary job opened up at Capay Joint Union Elementary, she took it and worked there until her retirement in 2000. She enjoyed watching the kids in the community grow up over the years. She enjoyed the good kids as well as the troublemakers, often commenting that many of the latter often grew up to be good adults. She enjoyed working with the teachers who taught there, keeping in touch after they all retired. After retirement, she and Les traveled extensively, as she monitored the internet in search of bargain air flights. She enjoyed her many friends in Capay, often lamenting that such communities were getting more and more uncommon. She and Les attended the Capay Friends Church from the time they were married until she moved from the community. After Les passed in 2017, she moved to Las Vegas to be with her sons Brian and Dale. It was hard for her to move from Capay, but she wanted to spend her remaining years with her sons, as well as having access to casinos. On January 17 she fell, shattering her arm, requiring surgery. After a month of struggle she passed on February 21.
Gertrude is survived by her sons, Gary(Acampo), Brian (Las Vegas), Dale(Las Vegas),Daughter-in-law Cherie(Acampo), Grandson Gray(Acampo) and Granddaughter Erin(Denver, Colorado).
Funeral Services will be held March 12,2022 at 11 am at the Orland Cemetery, followed by a Memorial at the Capay Friends Church. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend. Flowers may be sent to Sweet-Olsen Family Mortuary in Orland. Donations may be given to Capay
