Obituary

Glenn "Silvermane" Ferry was born in Chico in September 1944 to Merle and Wilma Ferry and grew up in Orland, California. On December 18th, 2020 Glenn passed away in a Las Vegas hospital due to a massive heart attack.

Glenn attended Orland schools, graduating from Orland High School, and graduated from Chico State with a Geography major. He married the late Virginia Cunningham in 1966 and they later divorced.

Glenn was employed in disability insurance claims for around 40 years in the Bay Area becoming Workers' Compensation Claims Manager at Royal Insurance that later became Arrowpoint Capital. In 1977 Glenn and Sharry Starbuck were married in San Francisco, were divorced in 1998, and later became companions.

In 2012 Glenn retired to Pahrump, Nevada where he and Sharry had often participated in Cowboy Shooters of America events as members of CSA in California prior to retirement. His participation in competition was later limited due to health. Glenn still often participated in Pahrump Gunfighters reenactments for local groups and some tourists, too. He was a member of the Rocky Mountain Elks Foundation.

Glenn's memory was encyclopedic as were his stories to be told and he read voraciously in retirement, except for watching the Warriors and Dodgers. His interests in music and stamp collecting continued throughout his life with being a DJ as a hobby at times. Guitar gift cards were again on this year's Christmas list. He became adept at shell loading for the shooting competitions and acquired many outfits for themed events. Western desert lore was a new interest and he was planning a post-pandemic itinerary for his sisters, brother-in-law and his niece and her family to see new places of interest near Pahrump. Glenn made leather cowboy vests for his great-nephews. He had won prizes at chili cookoffs and he and Sharry were regulars at holiday events in California, Pahrump and Las Vegas as Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Glenn was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his companion of almost 40 years, Sharry Starbuck of Pahrump, his sisters Roxanne Ferry, Chico, Chellie Gates and his close brother-in-law, Dennis Gates of Orland, as well as niece Kendra Kaneshiro (Travis) and his great-nephews, Atlas and Athan Kaneshiro, who knew him as " Gruncle (great-uncle) Glenn."

Burial will occur at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Orland and arrangements are through Sweet-Olsen Family Mortuary in Orland and Palm Southwest Mortuary in Las Vegas. There will be celebrations of life in Orland and Pahrump post -Pandemic.

Donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life Team of Southern Nevada with it to be credited to the team Storm for a Cure. This can be done on line at www.relayforlife.org/snv or mailed to PO Box 231359. Las Vegas, NV 89105 . Glenn and Sharry, both cancer survivors, contributed a lot of time to this organization and Glenn would DJ for their various fund raisers.
