Harry Stanley
"Butch" Stilwell
Apr 15, 1945 — Dec 13, 2025
Harry Stanley "Butch" Stilwell, age 80, passed away on December 13, 2025, at his home in Mill Creek, California, just west of Chester. Butch was born to Bessie Clara Stilwell and Harry William Stilwelll on April 15, 1945, in Willows, California, and grew up a few miles away in Princeton. He graduated from Princeton High School in 1963.
After high school, he worked in the family farming business for a short time before settling into employment at General Cable / Pirelli Cable Corporation in Colusa, where he worked until the mid-1990s. He ended his career there in management, where he was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and the deep bonds he forged with his coworkers and employees—many of whom remained lifelong friends. After Pirelli, his strong work ethic proved a natural fit for self-employment, and he and his wife successfully ran their own businesses until retiring in 2010, continually motivated by the challenge and satisfaction of working for himself. His career reflected the values he carried throughout his life: dedication, responsibility, and pride in a job well done.
Butch was well known among friends for his love of the outdoors—hunting, fishing, and fireside storytelling—his loyalty to friends, his passion for football's 49ers and music's Elvis, and his boisterous sense of humor. While living in Colusa, he joined and participated in the Baptist Church, actively volunteering and regularly attending services. Those who knew him best remember him as dependable, authentic, and deeply loyal to those he loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bessie Clara Stilwell and Harry William Stilwell; his sister, Betty Ponciano; and his brothers, Bud (Percy), Pat, Denny, and Robert Stilwell. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Madalynne Virginia Stilwell; his children, Denny Stilwell and Dawn Stilwell; his stepson, Ivan Wilson (Jackie); his grandchildren, Olivia Stilwell, Ashleigh Wilson and Steven Jones; and many nieces and nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
