Harry L.
Jackson
Jun 26, 1939 — Aug 2, 2026
Harry Luther Yakutis Jackson was born on June 26, 1939, at home on his family’s 300-acre dairy farm near Mt. Hope and Otisville, New York. The youngest of three children, Harry grew up alongside his sister, Ethel, and brother, Paul. Life on the farm taught Harry early that chores came before comfort and that hard work, family, and grit were learned the old-fashioned way—by doing.
His mother, Ida, set a quiet example of perseverance. She walked four miles twice a day to milk the cows while pulling young Harry in a wagon.
In 1962, shortly after graduating high school, Harry and his mother headed west to Chico, California, to join Ethel and her family. There, Harry discovered his calling in construction. For nearly four decades, he worked tirelessly as a lather, his hands helping build homes, schools, commercial buildings, and hospitals throughout Northern California.
Harry knew how to build things. But his greatest work wasn’t made of wood, steel, or concrete. He built a life and friendships that lasted a lifetime. And wherever he went, he built a reputation for showing up, working hard, lending a hand, and getting the job done. He took enormous pride in his craft and never turned away from an honest day’s work.
Harry married Sandra C. Rhodes on May 17, 1970, at the Faith Lutheran Church on East First Avenue. They enjoyed nature, traveling, and playing games. Together they raised their children, Jeff and Shirley, on Burnap Avenue in Chico. Harry was fiercely proud of his family and cherished the time he spent with them.
After retiring in 2001, Harry traded construction sites for fishing holes, his tractor, and projects around his home in Orland. Retirement never meant sitting still for long. He was happiest when he had something to do—or someone to make laugh. He had a playful sense of humor and a knack for finding the funny side of things.
Harry, 87, passed peacefully on August 2, 2026, with his wife and children by his side.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra; his son, Jeff Jaxon (Kim); his daughter, Shirley Farboud (Bobby); his grandchildren and great-grandchild; and his nieces and nephews. He will be remembered by his family and friends for the life he lived, the work he did, and the many moments—both big and small—that they shared with him.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Almanza and the dedicated nurses and staff at Enloe Health Medical Center for their compassionate care in his final days.
Harry spent his life building things that mattered.
In his memory, build something good. Lend a hand. Make someone laugh.
Arrangements are held under the direction of Sweet-Olsen Family Mortuary.
