Hilde Gerda
Knecht
Apr 24, 1935 — Mar 30, 2026
Hilde G. Knecht, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 29, 2026, at the age of 90.
Her passing on Palm Sunday brings a special sense of comfort to her family. The day represents peace, transition, and being welcomed home—something that feels especially fitting for Hilde and the way she left us.
Hilde was born and raised in Germany, where she met her husband of 60 years, Clifford Knecht. Clifford was serving in the United States Air Force and stationed in Germany at the time. They married and, in 1961, moved to the United States to begin their life together and raise their family. In 1970, they settled in Bakersfield, California, where they spent many years creating a home filled with love, family, and lasting friendships. In 2017, Hilde and Clifford moved to Gardnerville, Nevada, to live with their son.
Hilde was known for her strong spirit, empathy, sense of humor, and deep love for others. She had a way of making everyone she met feel welcomed and valued, and she was truly loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Her life's work and greatest calling was her family's happiness. She found her greatest joy in time spent with family and friends, and she cherished her church, gardening, and traveling. Her warmth and presence brought people together, and her legacy lives on in the relationships she nurtured.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Knecht, in 2019.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Teri Knecht; her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Joe; her grandsons, Chase and Ryan, and Ryan's wife, Sowparnika.
Services will be held in Orland, California. Details will be shared with family and friends.
Her family is deeply grateful for the many friendships that meant so much to her throughout her life.
Arrangements are held under the direction of Sweet-Olsen Family Mortuary.
