Ian Stewart
Mccollum
Sep 29, 1997 — Nov 14, 2021
Ian Stewart McCollum, age 24, of Bangor, passed on November 14, 2021, after a difficult surgical procedure. He finished his faithful race and is now in heaven with his Lord Jesus. Ian was born in Yuba City on September 29, 1997. He was living with his parents, Michael and Laura and brother Martin in Bangor.
Ian spent the first years of his life in and out of hospitals due to a rare congenital condition. With each visit he brought joy to everyone he met. He did interviews on how to cope as a child in the hospital for other patients. He was in a TV ad to support children with difficult medical conditions.
As school rolled around, he was prone to infections and was home schooled before attending Bangor School where he played basketball and graduated from 8th Grade. He attended Hearthstone Charter School in Oroville and graduated in 2017. He enjoyed independent learning. He served one year as president of Student Council. He thrived with course work through the ROP program studying Medical Health Careers. He studied some at Butte College beginning the EMT coursework but didn't get to complete due to the pandemic.
Ian's biggest love in live was spending time at church and learning about Jesus Christ. He attended Awana, at Cornerstone in Yuba City where he also, participated in Christmas musical/drama programs for three years in a row. He attended Bangor Community Church in Junior High and High School. Where he assisted with worship music and helped with summer VBS programs. He loved to sing music and played Cajon drum with Christian Faith Center in Oroville with the worship team. He was also active with their youth and young adults' group and outreach ministries.
Ian is survived by his parents Michael and Laura McCollum; brother, Martin of Bangor; grandmother, Mary McCune of Willows; uncles & aunts, Patricia & Patrick Maloney of Fremont, CA, Linda & Greg Abbott of Willows, Iverna & Steve McAnulty of Liberty Lake, Washington. Ian was loved by an enormous extended family that includes several great aunts and uncles as well as numerous cousins whom he loved and who loved him.
Ian was blessed with amazingly loyal and true friends. Whom he smiled and laughed with each one, of course playing video games, cards, caring for each other, listening to each other and carrying each other's burdens, worries and dreams. His friends were of the upmost importance to him. You have been a blessed source of comfort for his family, and we are eternally grateful.
Ian is preceded in death by his Grandparents, William & Francis McCollum and Grandfather Glenn C. McCune.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, December 3rd, 2021, at Orland, Odd Fellows Cemetery, Road P between Rd 24 and 25, Orland, CA. The family is planning a Celebration of Life at Christian Life Center in Oroville in January. We welcome everyone who knew and loved Ian and wants to show support for his family to join us at that time. And while it will be hard, there will be a time made during this service for those who wish to share.
Ian's family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks during this most difficult time to their extended friends and neighbors who have reached out with loving care and kindness.
