Obituary

James "Jack" Ray Studybaker, 86, of Orland, California, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, May 3rd, 2026. Jack was born on August 24th, 1939, to parents Ray and Florence Studybaker in Fresno, California.

Jack married his beloved wife Judy in January of 1966, celebrating 60 years of marriage earlier this year. Jack and Judy were blessed with two children, Scott and Stacie, and were later thrilled to welcome 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Jack and Judy always made it a point to attend all events that their children and grandchildren participated in throughout their lives.

Jack worked very hard all throughout his life. He began working on his parents' farm at only 6 years old, later owning and operating his own farm. He raised sheep for over 50 years and grew olive and almond orchards. Back in the early years of sheep farming, they would take the sheep on the road from the Red Hills to M&T ranch, about 20 miles across the Sacramento River.

Later in his life, Jack began working as a heavy equipment hauler which he did for 35 years. Out of all the work he had done in his life, Jack enjoyed trucking the most. He bought a brand-new truck at the age of 63 and was the owner and operator of his own equipment hauling business through his entire trucking career. The business became very well known as the go-to for heavy hauling for many ranchers.

Jack loved to travel all over the United States by motorcycle, car, corvette, or jeep. He even traveled to Alaska on his motorcycle.

Jack found it important to be an active member of his community and was a member of many clubs. He served on the Board of Directors for the Westside Ambulance for over 40 years, was a member of the Elk's Club in Chico, and the Chico Corvette Club.

Jack is survived by his loving wife Judy Studybaker of 60 years, daughter Stacie (Jeff) Fisher, son Scott (Amy) Studybaker, grandchildren Ryan and Alex Fisher, Trevor, Tyler, and Austin Studybaker, and great-grandchildren Onyx and Niko.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents Ray and Florence Studybaker.

Donations in Jack's name can be made to the Capay Fire Department.

Arrangements are held under the direction of Sweet-Olsen Family Mortuary.
