Jeffrey Lynn
Workman
Jun 18, 1955 — May 14, 2022
Jeffrey (Jeff) Lynn Workman was born in Longview, WA on June 18, 1955, to Leo Elwin Workman and Margaret Louise Faye Boogaard. He grew up back and forth between Oakland, CA and Orland, CA until the age of 17, when Jeffrey joined the U.S Navy. He spent the next 20 years as a Machinist Maintenance Mate. His first duty station was San Francisco Hunters Point Naval Shipyard, and from there, He was stationed aboard many U.S Naval ships and stationed at Naval bases along the west coast. Jeffrey spent half of his military career deployed and is quoted to say he has "seen more countries than he has seen states in the U.S" His favorite country being the Philippines. He had hoped to see more of the United States.
Jeffrey retired from the U.S Navy after 20 years, in where he was finally able to plant his roots in Orland, CA. Which is where he has lived until his passing.
After retiring from the Navy, Jeffrey decided he would attend college. He graduated from Chico State with his AA in Drug and Alcohol Studies. He then went on to receive his bachelor's degree in social work. He was a substance abuse counselor until he made the decision to work for himself by starting his own landscaping company. Owning his own company allowed him to meet and build relationships with many people around the community and build relationships that have lasted years. Jeff enjoyed many things in life. He was an outdoors type. He liked to go camping, going on motorcycle rides, and just being outdoors in general. He liked to travel and had been planning a trip this summer to see family and to meet family members he hadn't met before.
He was always looking for things to be a part of. Things that would enrich his life in one way or another. Church was his first devotion. Jeff was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He built many special relationships with members of his church. His love of God and Country were something that everyone knew about him. He was proud of his dedication to the Lord and shared it every chance he could.
Jeff became an active member of a group that allowed him to participate in activities and training he had missed since being in the military. Although he was one of the oldest men in the group, this didn't stop him. He pushed through and kept up. He built a camaraderie with a group of men he very much enjoyed being around and spent weekends away on trips doing something he thoroughly enjoyed. He knew he was building friendships for life. This made him happy. It was something he was very proud to be a part of.
Jeff wasn't one to sit still. "There is always something to do" he would say. He started new projects all the time and even started collecting new things. When he wasn't tinkering around his house, he was on the lookout for something to add to his collection. He was a simple man, but with high standards and an eye for nicer things.
He will forever be loved and missed by his family
Jeff passed away, peacefully, on May 14, 2022. He is preceded in death by his Mother Margaret, Father Leo, Sister Sandra Chambers, Brother Franklin Workman and his Grandson, Mayson Milhorn.
