Obituary

Francis "Jim" Luis, 81, passed away on February 23, 2024 in Sacramento, California. Jim was born on March 16, 1942 to Frank Luis and Evelyn Nunes Luis in Humboldt, California, he was joined by Sister Joyce Ann in December of 1943 and in 1946 the family relocated to Hamilton City, California where they established Riverview Farms off Highway 32 and the Sacramento River.

Jim attended all 11 years of schooling in Hamilton City, graduating from Hamilton High School in 1960. He was very active in the Future Farmers of America (State Farmer Award 1959) and was Student Body President his Senior Year.

Jim attended Chico State, and Fresno State graduating from Fresno State in 1969 with a degree in Agricultural Business. After graduating he joined the U.S. Peace Corp. serving for 2 years in Brazil.

Upon his return from Brazil he returned to Orland and worked briefly in the Glenn County Agricultural Commissioner Office. In 1968 he began his career with PG&E. When in Merced with PG&E he was selected by the Rotary International Exchange and spent time in New Zealand.

Upon his return from New Zealand PG&E promoted him to Agricultural Power Engineer in U.S. Coastal Division, stationed in Salinas. In 1993 after 25 years he relocated and moved to Magalia, California, he was the caretaker of his mother and moved closer to family.

In 2018 the Camp Fire destroyed his home and all of his belongings and he relocated to Sacramento. He has spent his last years enjoying life at the Four Seasons at Westshore in Natomas.

Jim loved his Boston Terriers, having raised them for 35 years, and gardening.

He is survived by his last Boston Terrier Rosie, his Sister Joyce Ann Seefeldt her husband Allan, Nephew Mark Luis Seefeldt and his wife Kristina. He has two nieces, Lydia who lives in Phoenix, Arizona, and Hannah, who lives in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

He is preceded in death by his father Frank Luis in 1992 and his mother Evelyn Luis in 2005.

Funeral Services will be held at St. Dominic Catholic Church at 822 A Street Orland, California on Thursday February 29, 2024 at 10:30 AM. Burial will be at the Catholic Cemetery in Orland, California following Mass.
