Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Johnny Vogt, Sr., who peacefully departed this life at the age of 82. A devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and great-grandfather, he leaves behind a legacy built on hard work, integrity, sacrifice, and unconditional love.

Born in Switzerland, Dad immigrated to the United States as a young boy. After arriving through Ellis Island and living in a few cities along the way, his family eventually settled in Orland, California. He attended Orland High School, graduating in 1962. In 1967, his journey was interrupted when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. When he returned home, he came back to very little and had to start over. Rather than letting hardship define him, he rolled up his sleeves and began building a new life from the ground up.

Together with his beloved wife of 59 years, Linda, they poured countless hours, endless determination, and immeasurable sacrifice into building a dairy business that became a lasting legacy. Known by many as one of the hardest-working dairymen anyone had ever known, he believed there was no substitute for an honest day's work. Long before sunrise and long after sunset, he devoted himself to the dairies. The dairies stood as a reflection of his character: honest, dependable, and built to last.

Outside of his work, Dad believed in giving back. He proudly served as president of the local youth football program, dedicating his time to supporting and encouraging young athletes. He also loved helping with collegiate and freestyle wrestling, always willing to lend a hand at practices and tournaments, cheering on the kids, and sharing his enthusiasm for the sport. While work was always a priority, he also treasured the moments he shared with his family. He and Mom loved taking trips to Reno, where his competitive spirit shone at the poker table, and he especially loved teaching his grandsons the game he knew so well. He cherished returning to his homeland of Switzerland to reconnect with family and loved visiting relatives in New Zealand. Some of his happiest memories were made at the ocean, where he loved taking his family abalone and surf fishing, creating traditions and memories we will carry forever.

Above all else, he was a devoted family man. He was the loving father of Mindy, Daniella, Heidi, and Derrick, and nothing brought him greater joy than watching his family grow. He was a proud grandfather to Zachary, Hannah, Dominic, Christopher, Mackenzie, and Wyatt and was blessed to become a great-grandfather to Graham, whose life brought him tremendous happiness. He taught by example, showing that character is built through perseverance, humility, and, most importantly, keeping your word.

A man of unquestionable integrity, Dad believed your word was meant to be kept. He led not through speeches but through his actions. His humility, honesty, and perseverance earned him the respect of everyone who knew him. He never sought recognition for his sacrifices, finding his greatest reward in providing for his family and seeing them succeed.

Dad's legacy is not only the dairies he and Mom built together, but also the values he instilled in those who truly loved him: hard work, loyalty, compassion, and unwavering dedication to family.

Although our hearts are heavy with his absence, we take comfort in knowing his life was one of purpose, love, and extraordinary example. He leaves behind a family who adored him, respected him, and will carry his legacy forward for generations to come. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.

"The greatest inheritance a man can leave is not measured in wealth, but in the character, love, and example he passes on to those who follow him."
