Obituary

Josephine Rose "Josie" Nordel, cherished mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away on November 22, 2023, at Enloe Hospital in Chico, California, at 88. Born on December 5, 1934, in Arcata, California, she was the beloved daughter of Joseph and Emily Simmons. All who knew her will deeply miss her warm spirit and radiant smile.

Josie moved to Orland at 18, completing her senior year at Orland High School. After graduation, her career began at Aerojet in Sacramento, where she demonstrated remarkable skill and dedication. However, her true calling lay in her service to the community, which is evident in her over 30 years as a superior court clerk in Glenn County. Her commitment to her work and the people she served was unwavering and left a lasting impact on the community.
Josie's vivacious personality and generous heart were the cornerstones of her life. She was known for her giant laugh, fun-loving ways, and innate ability to make everyone around her feel unique. Her passion for giving back to the community was unparalleled, touching the lives of many through her kindness and compassion.

She leaves a legacy of love and joy in her family: her devoted brother, Frank Simmons; her loving son, David, and his wife Patricia; and her cherished grandchildren, David and Dominic; and great-grandchildren Avalynn and Isabelle, along with many cousins nieces and nephews. They and her numerous friends and acquaintances will forever hold her in their hearts.

Josie's life was a testament to the power of kindness and the impact one individual can have on the lives of many. A celebration of her life will be scheduled later, allowing those who loved her to come together and honor her memory.
Instead of flowers, the family requests donations to Horse's Spirits Healing to aid in Veteran Mental Health recovery, a charity close to Josie's heart, reflecting her lifelong dedication to helping others and her country.

Josie's radiant spirit will be sorely missed, but her legacy of love, laughter, and service will continue to inspire all who knew her.
