A proud, brave and courageous woman has lost her final battle with cancer and peacefully passed away on Monday, July 23rd at a care facility in Chico, CA.  Joyce Joann Schatz was born in Corning, CA on July 16th, 1939 to Pete and Irene Grundy, one of three daughters, Nancy (RIP), and Connie. After graduation from Corning Union High School, she met and married the love of her life, Theodore Schatz in 1956 and following a brief time in Louisiana, settled in Orland to raise her four sons: Norman, Wayne, Robin and Terry.  Joyce and Ted celebrated 32 years of marriage before Ted's passing in 1989. Joyce was well known and loved in the community of Orland for her always positive attitude and smiling disposition. Never afraid of hard work, Joyce worked at Dole Nuts, Orland Orange Packing Plant, Meyers Nuts and Mansville's, Willows for 20 years where she is remembered fondly. Joyce loved to cook, collect and socialize and attended the celebration of her 62nd School Reunion this year. Joyce is survived by her 4 sons, sister, 2 granddaughters: Amanda and Lindsey and 2 great grandchildren, great aunt, nieces, nephews and extended family. Graveside services will be held at the Masonic Cemetery, County Rd 9 and Hwy 99 W at 10:30 am Tuesday, July 31st, 2018 followed by a reception at the Berry Patch Restaurant, Newville Rd, Orland. Services are handled by Sweet-Olsen Family Mortuary of Orland.
