Obituary

On a Thursday that promised to be a bit warmer than the usual Sacramento Valley March day, Laura Harder Blevins reached the end of her time. Laura was born to Harry and Ruth Pritchett Harder August 5, 1935 at Mrs. Bedford's Maternity Home in Glenn County. She was greeted by many friends and family including brothers Harry and Wesley. Her paternal grandparents lived next door and were an influential part of her early years.

Laura attended grammar school in Artois and graduated from Glenn County High School in 1952. However, she wasn't finished with her high school alma mater and worked in various positions at the school until she was hired by Bank of America, Willows branch. In 1954 she married Franklin Blevins at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Artois. They made their home on Eighth Street, a house that was built for them by Fred Nielsen. Laura was now a homemaker and soon four children would fill the house. In 1966 the family moved to East Yolo Street to a home that was always filled with activity, inside and out. From creating a haunted house for Halloween, inviting musicians from Frank's bands or local teen dances, welcoming new teachers, planning the next Willows High Alumni event or holding her own parade announcing booth, she did not just sit and wait for action to come to her.

This space cannot possibly list all the "antics" of Laura or those with her main partner in those activities, Vi Lederer, but the family is prepared to share any stories with people who were as touched by Laura as her family was. Waiting until her children were in school, she took on the position of Orland's Chamber of Commerce Secretary and lastly secretary for Ed Garton's Realty until hired by the City of Orland. After Myra Trammel's retirement, Laura took on her role as City Clerk (an elected position). She would hold this position for twenty years, working with many City Managers and Councilmembers, helping with the move from City Hall's Walker Street location to Fourth Street. She would tell us the best part was working alongside Marlene Askeland. Up until her passing, Laura was proud to be living in her own home, (with the help of Rossi Inzunza) rooting for the Golden State Warriors and watching CNN.

Laura is survived by daughters Janet, Karen and Lee Ann and their respective spouses, Mark Wackerman, Tim Padovese and Ray Evaro. She also had six grandchildren, Dillon (deceased) and Max Wackerman (Christina), Nicholas and Mike (Chellsea) Padovese, Caleb and Shaila Blevins. She had four great grandchildren, Mark Charles Wackerman, Carmine and Juliette Wackerman and Charlie Padovese. Additionally, she is survived by her niece Trudy Harder Maddy, nephew Steve Harder and their families, sister-in-law Genieve Harder and her late husband Frank's relatives and their families. She was predeceased by her brothers Harry and Wesley, husband Frank and son Ernest Blevins.

Interment will be at the Germantown Cemetery at 10AM March 26, 2026 with the Memorial service following at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Artois, at 11AM, Pastor Jose Luis La Torre Cuadros presiding. Reception immediately following at Lutheran Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church where Laura had been an active member up until her passing.

Arrangements are held under the direction of Sweet-Olsen Family Mortuary.
