O'Larry was born to George and Lavanda Smock on September 8, 1948 in Los Angeles, CA. The family moved to Napa, CA in 1954, and then moved to Orland, CA in 1961. He graduated from Orland High School in 1968. During his school years he played football and was a member of 4-H and FFA. He served in the Army from 1969 to 1971. Larry Served 18 months in Viet Nam where he recieved the Bronze Star for "distinguishing himself through meritorious service in connection with military operations against hostile forces."
After leaving the Army, Larry went into the floor covering business and continued to install flooring his whole life. He married his first wife Jeannette and they had two sons Dean and Wes that they raised together. Larry later married his current wife Sandra. They enjoyed going camping, fishing, hunting, and being with family together. Larry loved racing stock cars and helping his sons build cars. He served on the Orland Fire Department for several years and was a member of the Moose Lodge.
Larry was a loving father, son, and brother. All that knew him, found him to be an honest man and a good friend. He will be deeply missed.
He was proceeded in death by his son Hap William, Father George, and Mother Lavanda. Larry is survived by his wife Sandra, two sons O'Larry Dean Jr., and Wesley, Wesley's wife Shawna. Brothers, George and wife Susan, Claude and wife Kelly, Burns, and Whick and wife Sandra. Nephews, Taylor, Allen, Jordan, and Jacob. Nieces, Tiffany, Tennille, and Starla. Step children Larry Campbell and wife Bobi, Tabatha Sarnoski and husband Nate, Shelly Fayhe, and five step grandchildren. Also, many other extended family and friends.
Thank you everyone for being there for Larry during his long bout with cancer, it helped him immensely. Please send any memorial contributions in his name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or the Orland Moose Lodge. Sweet-Olsen Family Mortuary is handling all arrangements.
There will be a graveside service with military honors starting at 10:30 A.M. at the Masonic Cemetery on County Road 9 and Highway 99W in Orland on Saturday, August 25th.
Immediately following will be a Celebration of Life at the Moose Lodge in Orland.
