Raymond Jean Collette, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle passed away at home on June 16, 2018, after fighting a valiant battle against pancreatic cancer.
Ray was born in sunny Pasadena, California, on February 7, 1939, to Ray T. Collette and Marie C. Tillat. He grew up in Arcadia, California, attended Arcadia High School, Mt. San Antonio College, and the University of Arizona, enjoying basketball and fossil hunting.
He worked in the semiconductor industry during its infancy, helping to increase the process efficiency for the development of the integrated circuits and solar cells. In 1975, to pursue a life-long dream, Ray moved the family north to Orland, California to an established orchard, where he grew and sold oranges. After retiring from life on the orchard, Ray and Jeanne moved closer to town where they invested in sheep to mow the lawns, and allowed Ray to continue his hobby of collecting tools, trucks, military vehicles, and many other unique items. He was an early member of the American Historical Truck Society and helped produce their first Roster of Members. He also volunteered his time with the VFW, 4-H, St. Dominic's Parish Altar Society, and several others, but specialized in supporting the Orland Women's Improvement Club rummage sale in both setting up and purchasing items for his growing collection.
He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Jeanne Collette, son Roger Collette (Suzanne), daughters Cathy Myhers (Jim) and Chellie Finkbiner (Don); Grandchildren Chelsea Collette, Seth Finkbiner, Brendan Collette, Bradley Collette, Sydney Myhers and Hannah Finkbiner. Ray is also survived by his sister, Phyllis Frasher and several nieces, nephews and their families.
Per his wishes, no services are planned, and a small family gathering will be held in the future to celebrate his life.
If wished, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, or a charity of your choice.
