Ruby Elizabeth Sykes Baugher died peacefully on June 1, 2023 at 103 years of age. As a lifelong resident of Glen County, she was born May 9, 1920 to Horatio Edwin Sykes and Elizabeth Graham Sykes of Willows.

She was the oldest of 4 girls: Judy (Johnson), Eleanor (List) and Margaret (Weisler)

Ruby married Delbert Wayne Baugher in 1941 and moved to Orland and became partners with Paul Blacet in the Orland Hardware store. Delbert was drafted and called to army service in the later part of 1942 and was stationed in London for 4 years. Ruby ran the hardware store with Paul in Delbert's absence, living with his parents Joe and Hazel Baugher.

Ruby loved running the hardware store and when Delbert returned from the war 4 years later, Ruby trained him in how to run the business!

Ruby was a wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt, homemaker, and confidant. Always available to aid others, she was active in CA Children's Home Society and possibly the longest continuous member of the local Women's Improvement Club in Orland.

Ruby had 3 children: Geoffrey, Bruce, and Jane. She was preceded in death by Jane, Bruce, and Delbert. She is survived by Geoffrey and grandson Rob and his children.

Burial services will be held at Orland Odd fellows Cemetery on Tuesday June 20, 2023, at 11:00am. A reception will follow at the First Baptist Church in Orland.
