Our beloved Sheri passed away on April 14, 2019 at age of 59 in Orland California. Sheri was born on November 26, 1959 in Long Beach CA. The daughter of Edward Garcia Lorente and Theresa Ann Stevens, she was one of 7 siblings and from a very young age took on the role of Mother and protector to her young siblings.

From Long Beach, she moved with her family to Chico CA in 1968 and attended Oakdale Elementary, Chico Jr., and Chico Sr. High School. In 1973 she lived in Granada, Spain, where she learned to speak Spanish and fell in love with flamenco and spanish guitar. There were many times one would hear her yelling "Afuera!!", shooing everyone out of the kitchen.

At the young age of 17, she met the love of her life, Gregory Norwood at youth group and they were married on May 28, 1977. They had 3 children, Rebecca, Andrew, and Lindsay, who were the center and focus of her life. They have many fond memories of family vacations to the coast, camping, waterskiing on the lake, visiting family, and planning & hosting events at her home.

Sheri obtained her cosmetology license in the early 80's and was a hair stylist at The Hair Works Salon in downtown Chico for many years. She returned to school after raising her children and achieved her RN degree, eventually working at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Red Bluff.

She loved helping people, spending time with family and attending school programs, performances, and sports events. Her greatest gift was to nurture the talents of her family and friends so they could shine. With her husband's partnership, she worked passionately to provide opportunities so that all could discover their talents and participate in Performing Arts and Sports.

It was the peace and calm of Orland, the horses, the beautiful orchards, her rose garden (and the many hummingbirds that would visit), and her many wonderful neighbors, that gave her the greatest happiness. She spent many hours studying her Bible and family history, researching at length her Portuguese roots, music, language and family names.

She is preceded in death by her father Edward Garcia Lorente and sister Kami Stevens. Her bright soul is survived by beloved Husband Gregory of 41 years of Orland, her 3 children Rebecca Mendoza, Andrew Norwood, and Lindsay Norwood, all from Chico, in addition to 6 grandchildren. As a resident of Long Beach, Chico, Redding, Paradise, and Orland, no matter where Sheri was, she provided a family centered home for those she loved and needed her.

Sheri spent her life caring for her immediate & extended family and her community. She was diagnosed with MS in 2001 and fought an incredible fight. Even as her health failed, her concern was always for others, making sure they were comfortable even though she was in great pain. Sheri lived her life for others and gave selflessly until the very end. Her wit and wicked sense of humor will be missed along with the laugh that was constant. May she fly on the wings of eagles with the wind at her back, knowing that her life was a testament of faith, selfless giving, and strength in the midst of extreme adversity, from which she is now forever free and finally at peace. We all love her and she will be missed by so many!

All are welcome to join family for services beginning at 10am on Friday April 26, 2019 at Glen Oaks Memorial Park in Chico, CA, in the Garden of Tranquility. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11am, location TBD.
