Obituary

Terry Lee Nava, 74, of Orland, California, passed away on July 7, 2026.

Born on November 9, 1951, in Colusa, California, Terry lived a life marked by strength, humor, and love for those around her. She spent many dedicated years working for the California Department of Justice in Sacramento, where she took pride in her work.

To know Terry was to know laughter. She was quick-witted, wonderfully sarcastic, and never missed the opportunity to make those around her smile. She loved playing bingo with her sister, cherished time spent with friends at the Orland Moose Lodge, and found her greatest joy in being with her beloved grandchildren, who were the light of her life.

Terry faced life’s challenges with remarkable courage, including her long lung transplant journey. Through it all, she showed resilience, determination, andgrace that inspired everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her loving children: Larry Smith(Alison), Carolyn Burkhalter, Joseph Nava (Laura), Robert Nava(Rita), and Stephanie Acosta; as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family, and friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Joycalee Jean Poncia; her stepfather, George Poncia; her daughter, Sandra Smith; and her sister, Donita Flagor.

Though Terry’s presence will be deeply missed, her laughter, strength, and unconditional love will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Graves Cemetery in Orland, California, with a reception to follow.

Arrangements are held under the direction of Sweet-Olsen Family Mortuary.
