Vada Dyck Obituary
Vada Fern Giesbrecht Dyck was born to Abe and Edna Giesbrecht at Turlock, California, on December 14, 1945. She was a young girl when the family moved to Glenn, California in 1953. She went to Glenn Elementary School for eight years. She said that she could hardly speak English when she started school. Back in the day, the teacher insisted that the children speak English instead of their Low German language. She later attended Princeton High School.
She began her Christian life early, as she gave her heart to Jesus when she was twelve years old. She was baptized by Minister Jake H. Loewen on February 16, 1958. She was faithful to those baptismal vows throughout her life. For a few months before her marriage, she worked at Grace Home, Livingston, California. She enjoyed her youthful years, but she was happy for a marriage proposal from Vernon Dyck, of Georgia. They were married on June 27, 1965, at Glenn, CA. Thus began the years spent in Georgia. She loved those twenty-three years, first on a farm, and later, on a dairy where they had a big garden.
She was a hospitable mom, prompted by a hospitable dad. It must be admitted that the hospitality was sometimes impromptu, because Dad would readily invite any stranger who showed up in church on a Sunday morning. She was a willing worker, serving on sewing committee and food committee. She and Dad enjoyed being helpful to the Bible school effort.
During the Georgia years, they added two sons and three daughters to the family. The children have good memories of those years when they learned the value of hard work. If she assigned the tomatoes to be picked, the daughters could go swimming first, but the tomatoes still had to be picked, even if it was a hot, humid afternoon. The boys were kept busy on the farm, but they were allowed to make no-bake cookies when they sometimes stayed home alone.
After prayerful consideration, Mom became willing to move back to California. She and Dad always missed "the South." She had a desire to care for her aging parents, which she did until their passing. We moved in 1988, and our home was graced with "company" that first night in Willows, California, where we lived for about a year. From Willows, we moved to a house near Glenn, where we stayed for a couple years. Then, we moved again to a house in the Bayliss area. In 1994, Dad and Mom built up a farm on Road 48, where they spent their remaining years together. She adored her little grandchildren and enjoyed them very much. She sewed many little dresses for the granddaughters.
After Dad passed away in January 2021, she was lonely and soon wanted to move into the Riverside Country Home. She made the move at the beginning of 2022 and spent just over two years there. She went to be with the Lord on May 1, 2024, surrounded by children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, after a long battle with cancer.
Mom is dearly missed by her children, Rodger and Renae, of Glenn, CA; Weldon and Brenda, Artois; Roberta and Randal Toews, Willows; Marjorie and Scott Giesbrecht, Glenn; and Debra and Lonnie Unruh, Glenn; fifteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren; sisters Bernice and Eldon Wenger, Hesston, KS; Betty Jean and Dennis Spence, Othello, WA; Jane and Shawn Giesel, Hesston, KS; and Sharon and Roger Giesbrecht, Othello, WA; brothers Howard and Regena Giesbrecht, Willows; and Bill and Sharon Giesbrecht, Glenn; brothers-in-law Franklin and Jean Dyck, Stapleton, GA; Monroe and Rosie Dyck, Faunsdale, AL; and Danny and Brenda Dyck, Ithaca, MI; and sister-in-law Rose Giesbrecht, Glenn.
