Vernon Keith
Dyck
Sep 19, 1942 — Jan 20, 2021
My husband, our father, and grandfather, Vernon Keith Dyck was born to Elmer and Edna Koehn Dyck on September 19, 1942. He was born in Hillsboro, Kansas, and lived in an adobe house there until he was five years old. He peacefully passed away from complications of Covid related pneumonia on January 20, 2021 in Chico, California.
When he was five years old he moved with his parents to Winton, California, where they lived for three years before moving back to Kansas. When he was fourteen years old he answered the call of God. Shortly after this experience the family moved to Stapleton, Georgia. It was there Minister Reno Hibner baptized him into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, on February 10, 1957.
He spent two years in 1W-Classified service in Tucumcari, New Mexico, which he often spoke of as a high point in his file. He made lifelong friends there and always loved the area. He never wanted to miss a Tucumcari reunion. On June 27, 1965, he took Vada Fern Giesbrecht, from Glenn, California, to be his lifelong companion. They lived at Stapleton, Georgia, for the first twenty years of their marriage. During that time, their five children were born. They lived on and operated a dairy farm. They moved to Glenn, California, in March of 1988, and lived there until his passing.
Dad was a friend to man. He loved people, and this made him a man of hospitality. Visitors of any type in church on Sunday morning would often receive an invitation for lunch. He also enjoyed going to visit elderly on Sunday afternoons.
During his years at Glenn, California, He spent a number of years driving logging truck, later hauling grain and bulk commodities years together with his sons. He enjoyed this work, but he often talked about the South saying "You can take the man out of the south, but you can't take the south out of the man."
He re-consecrated his life to God in his later years, making sure of his place in heaven. He stayed faithful to this experience until God called him home.
Those gone before him include his parents and parents- in- law, one sister, one brother-in-law, and two sisters-in-law. He survived by his wife Vada, five children, Rodger and wife Renae of Princeton, California; Weldon and wife Brenda of Willows, California; Roberta and husband Randal Toews of Willows, California; Marjorie and husband Scott Giesbrecht of Glenn, California; Debra and husband Lonnie Unruh of Glenn, California; three brothers, Franklin and wife Jean of Stapleton, Georgia; Monroe and wife Roseanna of Faunsdale, Alabama; and Danny and wife Brenda of Middleton, Michigan; sisters- in- law Ruth Boehs of Hillsboro, Kansas; Bernice and husband Eldon Wenger of Hesston, Kansas; Betty and husband Dennis Spence of Othello, Washington; brothers-in-law Abe Giesbrecht and wife Rose of Glenn, California; Howard and wife Regena of Willows, California; Bill and wife Sharon of Glenn, California; sisters-in-law Jane and husband Shawn Giesel of Hesston, Kansas; Sharon and husband Roger Giesbrecht of Othello, Washington; fifteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He is also missed by many friends, cousins and special loved ones.
Funeral services were held at the Glenn Mennonite Church, Glenn, California, on January 26, 2021. Burial was at Willows Cemetery in Willows, California. Officiating ministers were Eldon Wenger, Shawn Giesel, and Logan Giesbrecht.
