William Young
Mitchell
Mar 19, 1936 — Jun 14, 2020
William Young Mitchell, 84, passed away at his home in Gerber, CA, on June 14, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 19, 1936 in San Marcos, Texas to Albert and Erie Mitchell. "Mitch" grew up primarily in Texas and graduated from Odem High School in Texas in 1955. He joined the Navy after graduation, serving as a pipefitter on the USS Toledo and USS Rochester until 1959. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he married his sweetheart, Faye Annette Archambeault, November 1, 1959, in Pasadena, CA.. When told that he was a great man, she once replied "I knew that when I was fifteen!" They moved to Capay in 1964 where they resided until 2014. In 2014 they moved to Gerber where they lived until his passing. MItch worked various jobs in those early days: roofer, millwright, and hay hauler, finally settling in as a maintenance man at Glenn Milk Producers, where he worked until 1997 as a member of Teamsters Local 137. Those jobs always subsidized his primary passion, farming. He was a dairy farmer, rancher and orchardist in Capay for fifty years.
He was a hardworking man whose compassion, integrity, and love for family made him the patriarch of both sides of his extended family. "Uncle Young," as he was known, was beloved by everyone. "We lost our hero", "Everyone will miss Uncle Young, He was a magnificent man", "Our family lost a pillar", and "The most wonderful man I ever knew" are just a few of the comments made by his nieces and nephews. He always enjoyed driving across the United States to visit with family and friends. He was "Mr. Fixer" helping countless people roof a house, get a piece of equipment running, fix a fence or build a shed. He enjoyed gardening and especially loved raising chickens.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Faye, his children Myndee (Shannon) Albers, Valerie (Dennis) Lucero, and Cort (Teresa) Mitchell, his grandchildren Kol (Shelby) Zuppan, Alyx (Derik) Green, Julia Zuppan, Mitchell Albers, Tristan Albers, Holly (Michael) Trump, Sean (Margarita) Olson Luna, Talea Fraemohs-Mitchell, and Chad Aaron Mitchell, and his great-grandchildren William Young Zuppan, Theodore Zuppan, and Lillian Trump, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters Florence, Margaret, and Alberteen and by his son Chad Young Mitchell.
Burial services will be private. A celebration of life will be held at an appropriate time in the future. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the USS Toledo (CA-133) Association, Fred A. Scibuola, 7502 Opal Hill Lane, Humble TX, 77396-3482 .
